**The short answer:** you check a puppy twice after booking. First, on the live video call when it's collected from the farm: watch it walk on a flat floor, look at its eyes, nose, coat and rear, and confirm it's the exact puppy, coat type and sex you ordered. Second, at your door before you pay the balance or sign anything: compare it with the pickup video, check the vaccination card and documents, and report any problem with unedited photos and video straight away.

This page is for buyers who have already booked. If you're still choosing, start with the [puppy buyer's checklist](https://nearby-petstore.in/puppy-buyer-checklist/).

## Part 1: The pickup video call

When our team collects your puppy from the farm after booking, they do a live video call with you. Under our [Cash on Delivery policy](https://nearby-petstore.in/cash-on-delivery-terms/) this call is recorded and attached to your order, and the same puppy shown on it is the one delivered to you. Use the call well. It's your best chance to catch problems before the journey.

### Make sure it's live and it's your puppy

- Ask the handler to say your name, or wave a hand over the puppy, so you know the call is live and not a recording.
- Confirm the sex, colour and markings against what you booked.
- Confirm the variant you paid for: coat type (for example standard, double or long coat in German Shepherds), eye colour where it applies, and KCI or company certificate.

### The movement test

- Ask for the puppy to be put on a flat floor and encouraged to walk and run towards the camera.
- Look for a smooth, even stride: no limping, no dragging a back leg, and no "bunny hopping" with both back legs moving together. That last one matters especially in large breeds prone to hip problems.

### The close-up check

- **Eyes:** bright and clear, no thick or cloudy discharge.
- **Nose:** no constant runny discharge.
- **Coat and skin:** no bald patches, scabs or crusting. Ask to see the belly.
- **Rear:** clean and dry under the tail, a good sign of a settled stomach.
- **Energy:** curious and responsive once awake.

If something worries you, say so on the call and ask for a closer look. Raising it before the puppy travels is far better than discovering it at your door. The [healthy puppy guide](https://nearby-petstore.in/blog/how-to-tell-if-a-puppy-is-healthy/) explains each sign.

## Part 2: At your doorstep, before you pay or sign

### Compare with the pickup video

It should be the same puppy: sex, colour, markings, and coat type. If it isn't the puppy verified on the pickup call, that's valid grounds to reject the delivery.

### Check the documents

- **Vaccination card:** vaccine sticker, dates, and the vet's signature and stamp. The dates should fit the puppy's age.
- **Deworming record** with dates.
- **Certificate** matching what you paid for: a Company Purebred Certificate, or KCI if you chose it.
- **Invoice / order details** showing the full price.

More on what each paper proves is in [puppy documents in India](https://nearby-petstore.in/blog/puppy-documents-checklist-india/).

### Do a quick health check

Let the puppy settle for a minute, then repeat the movement test on a flat floor and check eyes, nose, skin, breathing and the rear. Travel can make a puppy sleepy, and that's normal. Limping, laboured breathing, wounds or bald patches are not.

### If something is wrong

- A puppy with **visible wounds or hairless patches** should be rejected at the doorstep, for a full refund or replacement.
- For a **transit injury**, take unedited photos and video at once and report it **within 4 hours**, before signing the delivery acknowledgment.
- On a **Cash on Delivery** order, the doorstep grounds for rejection are a **sick** pet or the **wrong** pet, shown at delivery in front of our representative.

### Then pay and sign

Pay the balance, or the full amount on Cash on Delivery, and sign the delivery acknowledgment once you're satisfied. Keep the invoice, vaccination card and any photos together. You'll need them for the first vet visit and for any health claim.

## Part 3: The first 7 days

Book a vet visit within two or three days. Keep the puppy's food unchanged, keep it off public ground until its vaccinations are complete, and watch for vomiting, bloody diarrhoea or lethargy. Every pet comes with a written 7-day health guarantee covering parvovirus, rabies and severe pre-existing genetic conditions, as set out in the [refund policy](https://nearby-petstore.in/refund-policy/). The day-by-day plan is in [your puppy's first 7 days](https://nearby-petstore.in/blog/first-7-days-with-new-puppy-india/).

## Paying by Cash on Delivery?

COD orders need a one-time identity check through DigiLocker and an Aadhaar e-Sign. Read [is Aadhaar e-Sign for Cash on Delivery safe?](https://nearby-petstore.in/blog/cod-aadhaar-esign-digilocker-safety/) to see how to do it securely, and [how COD verification works](https://nearby-petstore.in/how-cod-verification-works/) for the step-by-step guide.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Nearby Pets India do a video call before dispatch?

Yes. After booking, our team does a live video call when the puppy is collected from the farm, so you can see the exact puppy move before it travels. On Cash on Delivery orders the call is recorded and attached to the order. There are no video calls before booking.

### What should I check on the pickup video call?

That the call is live, that the sex, colour, markings and coat type match your order, that the puppy walks smoothly on a flat floor without limping or bunny hopping, and that its eyes, nose, coat and rear look clean and healthy.

### What should I check before paying at the doorstep?

Compare the puppy with the pickup video, check the vaccination card, deworming record, certificate and invoice, and do a quick health check of movement, eyes, skin and breathing.

### Can I reject a puppy at delivery?

Yes, if it has visible wounds or hairless patches, or if it is sick or is not the puppy verified on the pickup video. The problem must be shown at delivery. Change of mind is not a valid reason on a Cash on Delivery order.

### What if the puppy was injured during travel?

Take unedited photos and video straight away and report it within 4 hours, before signing the delivery acknowledgment.
