Feeding a large cat here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Space and the outdoors with a Siberian Kitten

Homes around East Khasi Hills usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the kitten approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in East Khasi Hills

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. East Khasi Hills being monsoon-heavy, the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 25°C in August, so heat is rarely the problem for a Siberian that it is on the plains.

Winter nights drop to about 5°C in January. A Siberian copes well with cold, but a puppy still needs a warm, draught-free bed for its first winter.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Siberian kitten, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
