The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the kitten approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Thelkoloi

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Thelkoloi being warm and humid, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Is the Doll Face Persian Kitten right for Thelkoloi?

Thelkoloi is warm and humid — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important — and the Doll Face Persian Kitten is a medium-sized, quiet, sweet, docile breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Living with a Doll Face Persian Kitten in Thelkoloi

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Doll Face Persian Kitten. Owners in eastern India tend to find this cat a quiet, sweet, docile companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Feeding a medium cat here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Thelkoloi is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Doll Face Persian needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: a cool room with the curtains drawn in the afternoon, a tiled floor to lie on, and fresh water in more than one place.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Doll Face Persian kitten, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
