The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Living with a Newfoundland Puppy in Amarapuram

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a giant-sized breed to exercise at home. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Space and the outdoors with a Newfoundland Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a gentle, patient, calm dog the fit is usually good either way.

Grooming and coat care in Amarapuram

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, a Newfoundland Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Feeding a giant dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a giant build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In coastal tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Summer here peaks in April at about 37°C. That is manageable for a Newfoundland, but watch it closely because a giant body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in September.

For a new Newfoundland puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, May, June, July, August, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
