Living with a Shih Tzu in Kovvur

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Shih Tzu. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a playful, loyal, affectionate dog the fit is usually good either way.

Health and vet care in Kovvur

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Grooming and coat care in Kovvur

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Kovvur being humid coastal, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Kovvur is hottest in April, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters in Kovvur stay warm, with even January nights around 18°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and October is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Kovvur are November to January: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
