Feeding a giant dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a giant frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Living with a French Mastiff Puppy in Vakadu

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active French Mastiff Puppy. Owners across South India tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Space and the outdoors with a French Mastiff Puppy

Homes around Vakadu usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Vakadu

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Summer here peaks in May at about 37°C. That is manageable for a French Mastiff, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and a giant body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 21°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from October to November, and November is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new French Mastiff puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
