Is the Shih Tzu right for Dibrugarh?

Dibrugarh is monsoon-heavy — the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline — and the Shih Tzu is a small-sized, playful, loyal, affectionate breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Dibrugarh

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Shih Tzu. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a playful, loyal, affectionate dog the fit is usually good either way.

Grooming and coat care in Dibrugarh

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Dibrugarh being monsoon-heavy, the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Summer in Dibrugarh peaks in August at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Shih Tzu, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 12°C. A light sweater helps a small Shih Tzu on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Dibrugarh are February, March, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
