Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Mariani

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Shih Tzu room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners across the North-Eastern states tend to find this dog a playful, loyal, affectionate companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Summer in Mariani peaks in June at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Shih Tzu, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 12°C. A light sweater helps a small Shih Tzu on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Mariani are February, March, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
