Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In high-rainfall tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Health and vet care in North Guwahati

Preventive care in North Guwahati is largely a matter of anticipating the extended rainy season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Space and the outdoors with a Afghan Hound Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a aloof, dignified, independent dog the fit is usually good either way.

Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for North Guwahati?

North Guwahati is high-rainfall tropical — the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline — and the Afghan Hound Puppy is a large-sized, aloof, dignified, independent breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Summer here peaks in June at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Afghan Hound, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
