The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Thelamara

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Thelamara, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Grooming and coat care in Thelamara

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Thelamara being high-rainfall tropical, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Feeding a medium dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Is the Chow Chow Puppy right for Thelamara?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, and a medium-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Chow Chow Puppy adapts well to Thelamara on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.
