Grooming and coat care in Makdi

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Makdi being subtropical plains, extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Provide shade and constant water in summer; a warm bed and blanket in winter.

Feeding a tiny dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a tiny frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, keep water available and watch intake through the peak summer and winter swings.

Makdi is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Orignal Toy Pom needs real protection from that because its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C. A light sweater helps a tiny Orignal Toy Pom on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Orignal Toy Pom puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
