Space is the binding constraint in a city, and a settled temperament matters more in a shared building than anywhere else. For a aloof, dignified, independent dog the fit is usually good either way.

Exercise and routine through the peak summer and winter swings in Delhi

The peak summer and winter swings is the stretch that needs planning. The climate swings from hot summers to cool winters, so care changes with the season, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Afghan Hound Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep deworming and vaccination on schedule — seasonal changes can stress the immune system.

Delhi is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Delhi are February, March, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
