Health and vet care in North East

Preventive care in North East is largely a matter of anticipating the peak summer and winter swings. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Provide shade and constant water in summer; a warm bed and blanket in winter.

Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for North East?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Afghan Hound Puppy adapts well to North East on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Watch for seasonal coat shedding as temperatures change and brush accordingly.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in North East

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. North East being hot-summer / cool-winter, extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Watch for seasonal coat shedding as temperatures change and brush accordingly.

North East is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
