The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Pomeranian Puppy

Homes around South Goa usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Living with a Pomeranian Puppy in South Goa

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Pomeranian Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the west tend to find this dog a vivacious, bold, intelligent companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in South Goa

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In South Goa, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Grooming and coat care in South Goa

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. South Goa being warm and humid, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Summer here peaks in April at about 32°C. That is manageable for a Pomeranian, but watch it closely because its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 23°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Pomeranian puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, March, May, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
