The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and arid conditions water matters as much as food — daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Space and the outdoors with a Golden Retriever

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids dog the fit is usually good either way.

Health and vet care in Ghogha

Preventive care in Ghogha is largely a matter of anticipating the dry summer months. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Grooming and coat care in Ghogha

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Ghogha being warm and arid, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Summer in Ghogha peaks in May at about 35°C. That is manageable for a Golden Retriever, but watch it closely because its double coat holds heat close to the body and a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters in Ghogha are mild, with January nights around 18°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Golden Retriever puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Ghogha are October to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
