Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Gir Somnath

The dry summer months is the stretch that needs planning. Summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Pug Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Gir Somnath

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Gir Somnath being hot, dry, summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Health and vet care in Gir Somnath

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the dry summer months rather than during it. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot, dry conditions water matters as much as food — summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Summer here peaks in April at about 36°C. That is manageable for a Pug, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 14°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Pug puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
