Grooming and coat care in Lathi

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, a Mudhol Hound Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the dry summer months. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Lathi

The dry summer months is the stretch that needs planning. Daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Mudhol Hound Puppy than intensity ever will. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

Living with a Mudhol Hound Puppy in Lathi

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in western India tend to find this dog a alert, loyal, athletic companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot, dry conditions water matters as much as food — daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Lathi is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Mudhol Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 12°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Mudhol Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
