Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Petlad

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Petlad, the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Living with a Afghan Hound Puppy in Petlad

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Afghan Hound Puppy. Owners in the west tend to find this dog a aloof, dignified, independent companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Health and vet care in Petlad

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the dry summer months rather than during it. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for Petlad?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Afghan Hound Puppy adapts well to Petlad on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Petlad is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 12°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
