Apartment living with a Shih Tzu

Space is the binding constraint in a city, and a settled temperament matters more in a shared building than anywhere else. For a bold, lively, friendly dog the fit is usually good either way.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Faridabad

With apartment living common across the city, Shih Tzu owners do well with structured indoor routines and regular outdoor walks. In a city, the routine has to be deliberate — fixed walk times, a defined resting spot.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Faridabad

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Faridabad being hot semi-desert, the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In hot semi-desert conditions water matters as much as food — the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Faridabad is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A light sweater helps a small Shih Tzu on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
