Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Hamirpur

The cold winter season is the stretch that needs planning. Winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Afghan Hound Puppy than intensity ever will. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cold mountain conditions water matters as much as food — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for Hamirpur?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Afghan Hound Puppy adapts well to Hamirpur on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Hamirpur

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, a Afghan Hound Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the cold winter season. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Hamirpur is hottest in June, averaging 38°C in the afternoon. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Hamirpur are February, March, April, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
