Homes around Nurpur usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Living with a Afghan Hound Puppy in Nurpur

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Afghan Hound Puppy. Owners throughout the northern belt tend to find this dog a aloof, dignified, independent companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Nurpur

Preventive care in Nurpur is largely a matter of anticipating the cold winter season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Grooming and coat care in Nurpur

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Nurpur being cold mountain, crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Nurpur is hottest in June, averaging 39°C in the afternoon. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are September to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
