Grooming and coat care in Pukhri

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, a Golden Retriever's coat and skin want checking more often through the cold winter season. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Is the Golden Retriever right for Pukhri?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Golden Retriever adapts well to Pukhri on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Space and the outdoors with a Golden Retriever

Homes around Pukhri usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Health and vet care in Pukhri

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the cold winter season rather than during it. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

The city sits at about 2,731 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 22°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Golden Retriever that it is on the plains.

Winter nights drop to about -6°C in January. A Golden Retriever copes well with cold, but a puppy still needs a warm, draught-free bed for its first winter.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Golden Retriever puppy, the easiest months to arrive are May, June and September: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
