Is the Shih Tzu right for Ramkote?

Ramkote is cold mountain — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority — and the Shih Tzu is a small-sized, playful, affectionate, gentle breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cold mountain conditions water matters as much as food — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Ramkote

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, a Shih Tzu's coat and skin want checking more often through the cold winter season. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Ramkote

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Shih Tzu room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners across North India tend to find this dog a playful, affectionate, gentle companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Summer here peaks in June at about 36°C. That is manageable for a Shih Tzu, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winter nights fall to about 5°C in January. A Shih Tzu feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are April, September and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
