Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In continental plains conditions water matters as much as food — extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

The peak summer and winter swings is the stretch that needs planning. Consistency does more for a Afghan Hound Puppy than intensity ever will. Shift walks to early morning and late evening through the peak summer weeks.

Health and vet care in Sahibganj

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the peak summer and winter swings rather than during it. Space and the outdoors with a Afghan Hound Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a aloof, dignified, independent dog the fit is usually good either way.

Sahibganj is hottest in April, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Sahibganj are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
