Exercise and routine through the brief pre-monsoon heat in Dandeli

The brief pre-monsoon heat is the stretch that needs planning. The balanced weather is one of the easier indian climates for pet ownership, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Newfoundland Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep vaccinations, deworming and annual vet checks on schedule year-round.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Newfoundland Puppy right for Dandeli?

Dandeli is mild tropical plateau — the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership — and the Newfoundland Puppy is a giant-sized, gentle, patient, calm breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep vaccinations, deworming and annual vet checks on schedule year-round.

Summer here peaks in April at about 37°C. That is manageable for a Newfoundland, but watch it closely because a giant body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Newfoundland puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, May, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
