The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Ambalappuzha

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, a Golden Retriever's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Ambalappuzha

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Ambalappuzha, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Living with a Golden Retriever in Ambalappuzha

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Golden Retriever. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 31°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Golden Retriever that it is on the plains.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 26°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Golden Retriever puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
