Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Chittur

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. Moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Orignal Toy Pom Puppy than intensity ever will. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a tiny dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a tiny frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Summer here peaks in March at about 37°C. That is manageable for a Orignal Toy Pom, but watch it closely because its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 19°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from May to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Orignal Toy Pom puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to January: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
