The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Cane Corso Puppy right for Idukki?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a medium-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Cane Corso Puppy adapts well to Idukki on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Idukki

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Cane Corso Puppy than intensity ever will. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Feeding a medium dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Grooming and coat care in Idukki

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Idukki being warm and humid, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Summer here peaks in March at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Cane Corso, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 17°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Cane Corso puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
