Health and vet care in Kollam

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Kollam

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Shih Tzu than intensity ever will. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Kollam

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Shih Tzu room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners throughout peninsular India tend to find this dog a playful, affectionate, gentle companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Summer in Kollam peaks in March at about 35°C. Winters in Kollam stay warm, with even January nights around 21°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from May to November, and October is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.
