Grooming and coat care in Khujner

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Given the climate swings from hot summers to cool winters, so care changes with the season, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Khujner is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Golden Retriever needs real protection from that because its double coat holds heat close to the body and a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Golden Retriever puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
