Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, keep water available and watch intake through the peak summer and winter swings.

Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for Kirnapur?

Kirnapur is subtropical plains — extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year — and the Afghan Hound Puppy is a large-sized, aloof, dignified, independent breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Shift walks to early morning and late evening through the peak summer weeks.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Living with a Afghan Hound Puppy in Kirnapur

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in central India tend to find this dog a aloof, dignified, independent companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the peak summer and winter swings in Kirnapur

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Kirnapur, extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Watch for seasonal coat shedding as temperatures change and brush accordingly.

Kirnapur is hottest in May, averaging 44°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
