Exercise and routine through the peak summer and winter swings in Teonthar

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Teonthar, extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Provide shade and constant water in summer; a warm bed and blanket in winter.

Feeding a tiny dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a tiny build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In subtropical plains conditions water matters as much as food — extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Teonthar is hottest in May, averaging 44°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Orignal Toy Pom needs real protection from that because its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C. A light sweater helps a tiny Orignal Toy Pom on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Orignal Toy Pom puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Teonthar are February, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
