With independent houses common, there is usually room for a small-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in western India tend to find this dog a charming, mischievous, loving companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Grooming and coat care in Chandgad

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Chandgad being warm and humid, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and humid conditions water matters as much as food — moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.
