Health and vet care in Pune

Preventive care in Pune is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Pune

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Pune, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Grooming and coat care in Pune

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, a Shih Tzu's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Pune is hottest in April, averaging 38°C in the afternoon. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 12°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
