The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Golden Retriever right for Shrigonda?

Shrigonda is coastal tropical — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention — and the Golden Retriever is a large-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Health and vet care in Shrigonda

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Grooming and coat care in Shrigonda

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, a Golden Retriever's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Living with a Golden Retriever in Shrigonda

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Golden Retriever room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in western India tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Shrigonda is hottest in April, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Golden Retriever needs real protection from that because its double coat holds heat close to the body and a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters in Shrigonda stay warm, with even December nights around 13°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

Shrigonda has no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in September.

For a new Golden Retriever puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Shrigonda are January, July, August, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
