Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for T Vaichong?

The Afghan Hound Puppy does well in T Vaichong, with one caveat worth knowing up front: near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention. For a aloof, dignified, independent, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In monsoon-heavy conditions water matters as much as food — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Grooming and coat care in T Vaichong

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, a Afghan Hound Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the extended rainy season. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 29°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Afghan Hound that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
