Grooming and coat care in Ukhrul

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Ukhrul being lush, wet tropical, near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Is the Dachshund Puppy right for Ukhrul?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, and a medium-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Dachshund Puppy adapts well to Ukhrul on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a medium dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In lush, wet tropical conditions water matters as much as food — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a medium-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners across the North-Eastern states tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The city sits at about 1,842 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 24°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Dachshund that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 2°C in January. A Dachshund feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

No month here is easy on every count for a Dachshund, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
