Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Adokgre

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Adokgre, the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In high-rainfall tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Summer here peaks in June at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Pomeranian, but watch it closely because its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A light sweater helps a small Pomeranian on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Pomeranian puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
