Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Batabari

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Batabari, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Summer here peaks in April at about 34°C. That is manageable for a American Bully XXL Size, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new American Bully XXL Size puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
