Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for Betasing?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Afghan Hound Puppy adapts well to Betasing on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

Space and the outdoors with a Afghan Hound Puppy

Homes around Betasing usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Betasing

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Afghan Hound Puppy than intensity ever will. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Summer here peaks in April at about 35°C. That is manageable for a Afghan Hound, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
