Is the Shih Tzu right for Mairang?

Mairang is high-rainfall tropical — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention — and the Shih Tzu is a small-sized, bold, lively, friendly breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Mairang

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Shih Tzu than intensity ever will. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Mairang

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Shih Tzu. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a bold, lively, friendly dog the fit is usually good either way.

The city sits at about 1,682 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 22°C in August, so heat is rarely the problem for a Shih Tzu that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 2°C in January. A Shih Tzu feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

No month here is easy on every count for a Shih Tzu, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
