Grooming and coat care in Mawryngkneng

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, a Golden Retriever's coat and skin want checking more often through the extended rainy season. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Space and the outdoors with a Golden Retriever

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids dog the fit is usually good either way.

The city sits at about 1,323 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 25°C in August, so heat is rarely the problem for a Golden Retriever that it is on the plains.

Winter nights drop to about 4°C in January. A Golden Retriever copes well with cold, but a puppy still needs a warm, draught-free bed for its first winter.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Golden Retriever puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
