Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Nongstoin

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Persian than intensity ever will. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Living with a Persian in Nongstoin

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Persian room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the region's hills tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

The city sits at about 1,321 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 24°C in August, so heat is rarely the problem for a Persian that it is on the plains.

Winter nights drop to about 4°C in January. A Persian copes well with cold, but a puppy still needs a warm, draught-free bed for its first winter.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Persian puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
