The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Golden Retriever

Homes around Rongram usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Golden Retriever. Owners in the North-East tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Rongram

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Rongram, the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Grooming and coat care in Rongram

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, a Golden Retriever's coat and skin want checking more often through the extended rainy season. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Summer here peaks in April at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Golden Retriever, but watch it closely because its double coat holds heat close to the body and a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Golden Retriever puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
