Space and the outdoors with a Dachshund Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids dog the fit is usually good either way.

Feeding a medium dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Is the Dachshund Puppy right for Saipung?

Saipung is lush, wet tropical — near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention — and the Dachshund Puppy is a medium-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Saipung

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Dachshund Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

The city sits at about 1,039 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 26°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Dachshund that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 5°C in January. A Dachshund feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

No month here is easy on every count for a Dachshund, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
