The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Dachshund Puppy

Homes around Siju usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A medium-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Living with a Dachshund Puppy in Siju

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a medium-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners across the North-Eastern states tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Siju

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Dachshund Puppy than intensity ever will. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Health and vet care in Siju

Summer here peaks in April at about 32°C. That is manageable for a Dachshund: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C. A Dachshund has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Dachshund puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
