The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Grooming and coat care in Tikrikilla

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Tikrikilla being high-rainfall tropical, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Is the French Mastiff Puppy right for Tikrikilla?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, and a giant-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The French Mastiff Puppy adapts well to Tikrikilla on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Feeding a giant dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a giant frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Health and vet care in Tikrikilla

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the extended rainy season rather than during it. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Summer here peaks in April at about 34°C. That is manageable for a French Mastiff, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and a giant body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new French Mastiff puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
