The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. The green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, so keep sessions short and frequent. The city sits at about 1,080 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 27°C in April, so heat is rarely the problem for a Shih Tzu that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A light sweater helps a small Shih Tzu on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to October, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
