Grooming and coat care in Akuluto

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, a Shih Tzu's coat and skin want checking more often through the extended rainy season. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Akuluto

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the extended rainy season rather than during it. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu

Homes around Akuluto usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Shih Tzu room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the North-East tend to find this dog a playful, loyal, affectionate companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The city sits at about 1,024 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 29°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Shih Tzu that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A light sweater helps a small Shih Tzu on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
