Feeding a medium dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Health and vet care in Botsa

Preventive care in Botsa is largely a matter of anticipating the extended rainy season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Space and the outdoors with a Dachshund Puppy

Homes around Botsa usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A medium-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Grooming and coat care in Botsa

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Botsa being high-rainfall tropical, the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

The city sits at about 994 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 29°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Dachshund that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C. A Dachshund has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Dachshund puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
